Copywriter, Mainer, sommelier,
weekend chef, proud vagabond.

Almost 20 years ago, I was a college junior and burned out English major desperately looking for a place in the real world that might work for someone like me. Through a family friend, I landed an internship at Garrand & Company in Portland, Maine, and realized that advertising might just be that place.

Cut to nearly 12 years later, I was an account director and new business manager who spent way too much time on the writing part of my job because I genuinely enjoyed it. With that epiphany, I enrolled in the portfolio program at Miami Ad School in New York, and landed a job as a copywriter at J. Walter Thompson.

In the past eight years as a reborn creative, I have re-configured how I think about advertising, about work, and about collaboration. I believe that there is no such thing as flying solo in this business, and that good work is the product of respectful listening, taking risks, and—shocker—decent people. The industry is rife with ego, but I’ve learned from some of the best creative directors out there that being a good person, especially in positions of leadership, goes further than raw talent and ambition.

I love to write, more than anything. It is a constant exercise in problem solving, and no two requests are ever alike. I’ve used my brain more in the past eight years than I ever have, and it is wonderfully exhausting. I look forward to many, many more years of creating great work with incredible people, and I will never stop learning.

Also, I love dogs, spend my free time cooking, mastering techniques and flavors of cuisines from all over the world, I’m a sommelier (it’s my party trick), and I travel as much as my schedule/wallet allow.
